The Greyhound is one of the oldest dog breeds, originating in the Middle East and North Africa. Throughout history, this elegant breed has been celebrated by many cultures: referenced by Greek authors, immortalized in Egyptian art, and praised by Roman poets. Notably, the Greyhound is the only dog mentioned in the Bible.

During the Dark Ages, Greyhounds made their way to Europe. Their exceptional hunting abilities earned them such high regard that laws were enacted to prevent anyone living within 10 miles of the king’s forests from owning one, to protect royal game reserves. The breed’s fame continued to rise in England due to the popularity of coursing and racing.

Spanish explorers and British settlers brought Greyhounds to the Americas, where they adapted well to chasing jackrabbits and coyotes on the open plains. Greyhounds were among the first breeds featured in American dog shows, with the American Kennel Club recognizing the breed in 1885.

The first formal coursing race occurred in 1886, and the National Coursing Association was founded in 1906. Greyhound racing remains a popular, albeit controversial, sport in several states due to the unfortunate treatment of many dogs that fail to succeed on the racetrack.

A decade later, we encountered the Greyhound and were immediately smitten! Our dogs are an integral part of our family, raised in our home with care and love. The puppies are healthy, joyful, and eager to bring happiness from our home to yours!
